Sports Day

"Wow! what a day this is going to be". It's Wednesday again so it's Sports day today. Oh, I'm with Harriet...again! Finally we're at Wakefield School. This is kind of boring sitting here surrounded by strangers. Now I'm off with Group Number 2. First we were at long jump and then we were at relay and so and so... My favourite activity was hurdles. Everyone beat me with the hurdles but I did the net the right way by pulling it over me. "Calista wins!"yelled Ms Read. I was proud... ...very proud. It's time to have lunch at Faulkners Bush. I sat with Luke. We trotted back to the school. "Yay," I called, it's swim time. We had a great time on Sports Day!!

School Assembly

On Friday The 6th of November I took assembly with Rahania. First we waited till all twelve classrooms came to the school hall. The first classroom to come (apart from Room 5) was Room 6. Once all the class rooms were quiet we started. First Rahania said ''Good afternoon my name is Rahania, Tena koutou katua''. The first thing we said was ''Joe-Teapot Valley Camp'' Then Joe came up and talked to the school what we did at camp. Then Rahania called Isabella to talk about making our teddies. After that I called Liam + Thomas to show us the slideshow. Finally we got Taylor to tell us about the skits we did at camp. Then we said ''Teachers notices Mr Baldwin'' and a few minutes later we sang to two songs from Mr Phillips. Two minutes later the teachers handed out the certificates. Finally I said ''Teachers may take you back to your classes." The 12 classes went home. When I got home I told Mum and Dad all about taking Assembly.

On Friday Rooms 5 and 6 went to the Nelson Museum to look at the new exhibition on Sound. There was a step on piano, harps and lots of other things, like old and new things that make sound plus the big air cannon . Imo showed us all about loud and soft sound and what happens when you listen to loud sounds like mp3 players , building tools too loud or without earmuffs . It was so interesting. We had morning tea on the Church Steps, it was hot but we had a cool view of the city. Wow , Rooms 5 and 6 had a great time .

Pets Day

Wow, look at all of those animals, they are amazing. Thursday was Pets Day. There was all sorts of cats, heaps of dogs, bunnies and mice. At the start came one little horse and then the big horse. That horse can dance to music and isn't that hilarious. Now lets carry on with the rest of the animals. All of the bunnies were cute and they were all nice and fluffy too. Oh, I almost forgot, there was a dog race and when two of them won their races they got to race each other. Before all of the animals came there was hobbies and collections in the Hall and there were heaps of them.
It was a great day to be at school.

SPLASH!

I was as excited as kids on christmas morning as I raced up the path in my togs. Finally, I was going on the crazy waterslide. When I got to the top of the crumbly concrete path, the water on the slide was warm. As Steve pushed me down I tried steering like he said but I spun out backwards and burnt my pinky then stopped. I grabbed my mat and ran back up. Afterwards I had another go and I spun out and went sideways and then backwards but I didn't stop. I made it down going backwards and splashed into the deep, deep puddle. My togs were soaked. But even though I was going backwards I managed to keep the sides up and my feet on the mat like Steve said at the start.
It took me nine turns to go forwards and when I first went forwards Codey and Anthony were standing too close to the slide and got soaked as I hit the big puddle. When I got back to the top I was freezing and I tried getting a bit warmer but my towel was still wet from swimming in the freezing cold pool. I was s s s s s so cold. I felt like an Antartic penguin. After about two goes nobody else wanted to go again so I got heaps of goes and kept going SPLASH! into the puddle. I was an ice cube. After the nine goes it took me to go forwards, when I went forwards I burnt my elbow on the side but I still went SPLASH! and had so much FUN! Sarah

Baby Thrushes

In the awesome Term Three holidays we found some little baby Thrushes in a wooden pellet beside my tree hut.
They looked like they were only a few days old. There were four baby Thrushes in the little nest. We looked after the Thrushes for nearly two weeks and the Mother Bird helped too, by feeding them when the cage was open. Matthew and I feed them worms. In the middle of the Term Three holidays my dog Jack killed two of the birds because of the lazy mum who made the nest in the pellet beside the tree hut. The two dead birds were buried beside the tree hut. In the second week of the Term Three holidays the two birds that were left started to fly around the place. Me and Matthew always got pooped on quite a lot. On Saturday both birds had escaped from the cage and they were in the big shed , but we only caught one of them as the other one flew away. The brother kept coming back for his brother though.
After school on Monday we let him go. Me and Matthew were very sad to let him go because we had enjoyed having him as a pet. By Thomas Anderson

On the second day in Wellington we were at the pet shop. I said to mum, ''can I get a mouse please?''
Mum replied, ''maybe tomorrow.''
"But I want one today and I will take good care of it and I can look after it when your in the shop," I said. ''
"Ok'' said Mum. I was happy because I got to pick what mouse I wanted. It was black and white. I named it Evie. On the way back we bought two more at Natureland in Nelson. I gave one to Tyrone, my brother. Tyrone named his Woolly and I named mine k\Kia. They are all girls and I brought them to school on Friday to show my class. They enjoyed being in Room 5 for the day. Author's Visit

Wow! Dawn McMillan came to our library today. She came to tell us about writing stories. Dawn leaves her story if it is not right and then comes back to it if she thinks she's got the next idea. It takes up to two years to publish her stories. She lives in the Coromandel and she can see Auckland and the beach from her house. Dawn started writing when she was nine years old.
She taught me heaps of things about writing story books. Jessica

School Disco

The children at our school were dressed up as their favourite character and couldn't wait for the Disco to start after lunch. It was last Thursday and it was nearly the end of the term. Room 11 organised the Disco as a fundraiser to help children who aren't as fortunate as us.
Everyone, including the teachers did lots of mad dancing to really loud music. You could even buy food like popcorn but most of us were too full from the American Hotdogs that we had for lunch. It was a great way to finish up the term because we all had lots of fun.

Rally Cars

Oh! I couldn't wait. It was Tuesday, the rally cars came to school because it was the last round of the N.Z. Champs. The three Rally Car drivers came into our school hall then they talked about themselves. They talked about where they went to school, also when they got into Rallying. Finally it was questions. I had my hand up to have a question. Mr Baldwin had the microphone in his hand. He came round to Taylor but he picked someone else. I had my hand up really straight but I still didn't get picked.
We watched a cool movie about some of the Rally Car drivers but we only watched it for 15 minutes with half of the school who stayed in the hall. Room 5 went outside to see the perfect Rally Cars. We got a map and also a picture of the Rally Cars drivers. I got one autogragh. We got to see the Rally Cars as they zoomed off with smoke coming out the exhausts.

kiwi sport day

I hit the ball, I was playing soft ball . I had made it to the last mound. When the bell went we moved to the next activity. We were playing soccer and I had the ball but some one tackled me so I lost the ball. He got a goal so the score was three to two. Next we went to the dancing room where there were only five boys in the room. I was really nervous because we were doing a side dance with lots of jumping. Then we did a roll dance and it was really fun. The bell went again and it was morning tea time. I only had time to eat my sandwich. The bell went and we got to have a bit of free time on the Skate Park. We had to go and do hockey next. I got a goal for my team and some one called Jack got a goal too. It was really fun because we didn't have to do any home work. Next we did botcia where you have got to get the closest to the white ball. I went first with a red ball and I got really close to the white ball. Oh no, the bell went and it was lunch. We got to have another play in the Skate Park. Then we had to do a bean bag game where you're got to balance it somewhere on your body and weave in and out of the cones.
I was really sweaty at the end of the day because I did lots of running around. The day was really fun. Joe.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Show

Finally it's the night. On Wednesday night the Middle Syndicate went to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Show. The show was at the Wakefield Hall. At the show there were Oompaloompas. They had blue hair, and there were little dolls I think, and they had blue with white poka-dots and red with white poka-dots on their clothes. Whenever Willy Wonka wanted to explain something, they would do it for him. The actors were kids, teenagers and some were adults.
The show was on the 26 August, Wednesday at 7:30. In the story Charlie finds the last Golden Ticket and Charlie gets to go to the Wonka Factory. In the end Charlie and his family get to keep and run the chocolate factory. The actors were really good and I liked the show a lot. Isabella

Dissolving

Yesterday in Room 5 we've been dissolving. My group was using coffee. The hot water dissolved the coffee super fast. The cold water just did nothing. We mixed the hot and cold water together. The teacher said it had to be fair testing. We measured to see if it was the same amount of coffee. The coffee in the cold water looked like coke.We got 2 plastic cups. The cold water made coffee all bubbly.

Our Awesome Fishing Trip

It was the best day of my life because we went to Mapau Wharf. First we went to the Aquarium, it was amazing! I got a torch and I looked in the glass with the torch. I saw a scary fish and an octopus. The second thing was fishing. I had to walk on these really steep steps. By Shaun
"Wow! what a cool Spottie, great work Yasmine." Yesterday the Middle Syndicate went fishing off the Mapau Wharf. Liam caught three big fish. I love fishing. Dawn caught Sarah's handline and Sarah was not happy. For lunch I had warm chips and tomato sauce. They were delicious. We also had two delicious choclate fish.
by Calista
The tide was right out and we wandered along the sea shore finding all sorts of cool things like unusual shells and heaps of crabs. All too soon our fabulous day had to come to an end and it was time to head back to school with our exciting memories.

"You've got the Power"

Today we went to an anti-bullying programme.
Bullying can be ...
Talking - calling people rude or hurtful names and saying mean things to others.
Texting - sending mean or rude things.
Hurting - physical hurting, kicking, hitting...
Stealing - taking things and playing equipment.
Emailing - using computer chat rooms.
Use your WITS to fix bulling. W means walk away. I means ignore. T means talk to teachers, family and friends. S means stop!
Tools for schools are a large nail to nail bullying on the head and a step ladder to provide the 6 steps of Respect, Duty, Initiative, Compassion, Caring and Courage.
Parrots repeat things. You should repeat things that are helpful.
The magician' s name was Greg but he called himself Elgregroe. His wife was called Sue and it was an amzingly great show. "Treat others how you want to be treated!"

My Rabbit

Coal came to school and he is a rabbit. He stayed at school all day! He came in a push chair. My rabbit is a flemish giant and they can grow to a meter long. My rabbit is black and cost $20. When we got him he was as big as his dad. We are not going to let him have babies with the two girls because the babies will be too big and will kill the mum.So they're in separate cages.
I liked having my rabbit at school. By Ashlee

Tahuna Beach kitten

On Saturday morning we were on our way to the hydro slide. The hydro slide wasn't open so we went to the cafe and Tyrone asked if we could go down to the beach. Half way down the track Tyrone saw a little fluff ball lying on its side and it meowed, then I knew it was a Kitten. We took it back to mum and she took it to the cafe. They said it was wild but no way it was wild because if it was wild it would hiss even if it was a Kitten . So we kept it. When mum went to get milk from the cafe they charged mum 50 cents for it. I named it Pringle and he came to school for show and tell.

Wheels Day

It's Monday and we got 10 marbles in the jar.
Mrs Roberts said that we can have a vote of what we are going to do
for our class treat. We had a vote and we thought that we were going to have a wheels and pyjama day.
I was counting down the days but finally it was the day of our class treat. I wore my stripped pj pants and my pink pj top. After lunch we got all our equipment, I brought my red roller blades.
Many people brought bikes, scooters, skate boards, and roller blades. Many girls wore their
pj's that day. We all had a great time racing around the grass and hard court area, and dodging so we didn't crash into each other!

Swimming Sports

On Thursday the 12 of March Rooms 5, 6 and 7 went on an exciting trip to Wakefield
for the swimming sports. Appleby, Ranzau, Hope and Wakefield Schools came to it.
There was a lot of different swimming which included breaststroke, backstroke, freestyle, kickboard, noodle relay, torpedo, starfish and some people were doing lengths. The pool is much warmer than our school pool. It is an indoor pool.
At morning tea time, we got to have a little play on the Wakefield School play ground. Most children went back to school at morning tea time because they weren't swimming lengths. The lengths were for freestyle, backstroke, breathstroke and relays. It was a very long way for the length swimmers but they all tried very to get to the end without stopping! We all had an awesome time and loved our Mums and Dads cheering us on.
